Goals / Objectives
Determine Huanglongbing (HLB) resistant/tolerant genes in citrus using qualitative trait loci mapping and validate resistance/tolerant markers especially in manderin- and Poncirus-derived plantings. Identify field HLB-resistant/tolerant hybrids in the University of California Breeding program, from selection growing in Florida with help of ARS, and select promising candidates for evaluation of flavor quality by USDA-ARS.
Methods (unparsed)

Conduct genotyping-by-seqencing and genotyping with single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in parents and hybrids focusing on mandarin- and Poncirus-derived hybrids. Conduct pNOME approach (sequencing pooled samples of tolerant and susceptible genotypes). Phenotype UCR breeding program citrus lines grown in Florida with help of ARS by determining tree growth, health index, pathogen bacterial titer and disease symptoms.
