Goals / Objectives
Identify field Huanglongbing (HLB)-resistant/tolerant hybrids in the University of Florida Breeding program and select promising candidates for evaluation of flavor quality by USDA-ARS as well as qualitative trait loci mapping associated with HLB-resistance and tolerance and validation of resistance/tolerant markers especially in Poncirus-derived plantings. Increase public and industry awareness of identified HLB-tolerant hybrids by the research on USDA breeding lines that will be screened for HLB tolerance and commercial flavor quality.

Phenotype University of Florida (UF) breeding program citrus lines in by determining tree growth, health index, pathogen bacterial titer and disease symptoms. Conduct genotyping-by-seqencing and genotyping with single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in parents and hybrids focusing on Poncirus-derived hybrids. Provide samples to ARS for quality evaluation. Create and maintain a website containing interactive resources and design detailed surveys for growers and processors.
