Goals / Objectives
Screen progeny plants from new citrus crosses for resistance to citrus greening disease.
Methods (unparsed)
Seeds from crosses between citrus and citrus relatives will be planted in Fort Pierce. When the plants are about six months old, they will be challenged with psyllids carrying the bacterial pathogen responsible for citrus greening disease. After a two-week challenge, the plants will be treated with pesticide and the experiment will be continued in the screened enclosures. The plants will subsequently be observed on a regular basis for huanglongbing symptoms and tested for Las by qPCR. The intent is to discover genetic material that is tolerant or resistant to citrus greening disease.
