Goals / Objectives
  1. To improve the short-term management of Huanglongbing (HLB) providing therapeutic formulations based on small molecule hormones that will allow growers to reduce their losses when the disease has spread throughout an orchard and tree removal is no longer economically feasible.
  2. To deliver strong biomarkers that can define the plant health status and determine the effect of the hormone treatments validating the phenotypic analysis of infected and treated plants. These biomarkers will be obtained by a specific bioinformatic data analysis of the previous funded project on the deep sequencing analysis of the transcriptome in leaves and fruits.
Methods (unparsed)

Test a broad range of concentrations for each hormone and their combinations, and repeating spray applications during symptom progression. Each hormone experiment will last 3-4 months from the time of symptom development. Two experiments will be conducted on potted plants in the greenhouse. A third experiment will be conducted on trees commercial orchards using the most promising combinations using trees at different stage of infections (symptomatic, asymptomatic, and apparently healthy).
